Minor Characters, Major Struggles

Any fan of Netflix’s “House of Cards” knows that it is not for the faint of heart. If a character starts to become a moral compass, they’re probably going to die, and that is exactly what happened to Peter Russo, played by Corey Stoll in the very first season. Although I myself am fortunate enough to have never had a problem with substance or alcohol abuse, but I have seen up close how it slowly eats away at someone who really could have been a great person. I can’t help but love Peter Russo . When we meet him, he is a member of the House of Representatives, divorced but still affectionate father and secretly seeing his executive assistant Christina Gallagher. He and his wife Madalyn however do not appear to be on good terms. He’s bad, but not that bad. Then, the manipulative House Majority Whip Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey enters his life and it’s all downhill from there. To be honest, I was late to the party when it came to this neo-western crime drama. Although I thoroughly enjoyed Breaking Bad , I definitely wish I hadn’t heard all the hype beforehand because it definitely impacted my experience in that I think I expected too much going in. Nonetheless, great show and I think everyone should watch it because it definitely made me wish I was cool enough to make Meth, although, I probably shouldn’t say that as an aspiring FBI agent… Just kidding, this show does however appeal to me because of my career aspirations and interest in crime in general and perhaps this is why the character of Hank Schrader played by Dean Norris had such a significant impact on me. Dean Norris Hank’s struggles throughout the show aren’t exactly subtle, he definitely wears his heart on his sleeve in terms of his frustration with the Heisenberg case and his distress when he finds out that Walt is the one behind it.
